Intent.
At Ingol Community Primary School, our intent is that each class will receive at least two hours of high-quality physical activity per week as well as 30 minutes of daily activity. The school’s PE curriculum is successfully adapted, designed and developed to be ambitious and meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, developing their skills and abilities to apply what they know and can do with increasing fluency and independence.
The sessions will contain elements required by the National Curriculum of:
Key Stage 1: Games, Dance and Gymnastics
Key Stage 2: Games, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, Outdoor Education and Swimming.
How this is Implemented.
The PE coverage closely follows that of the Lancashire PE Scheme and is regularly discussed as a staff to meet the needs and abilities of all children across the key phases.
Team Theme: A PE provider who specialise in Primary School sports and curriculum PE coaching, come in twice a week in order to follow the learning objectives required to achieve in different year groups and, work closely with the senior leadership, subject leader and teaching staff to forward plan and reach targets expected.
Teaching staff provide at least one hour of PE per week, enthusing children’s enjoyment of physical activity and healthy competition.
PE Curriculum Overview:
EYFS: Children develop their negotiation of space and obstacles safely, with consideration of themselves and others. They should demonstrate strength, balance and coordination when playing games. Children will move energetically through running, jumping, dancing, hopping, skipping and climbing. This will be done with a heavy focus on fine and gross motor skills, as well as fundamental movements.
KS1 and KS2: Our school follows the programme of study outlined in the National Curriculum 2014, further developed by the Lancashire PE scheme. Children will develop a broader range of skills linking them to making actions and sequences of movement, both in isolation and, in a competitive team setting. Children will develop an understanding of a range of physical activities and work to improve upon them. These activities will relate to running, jumping, throwing, catching, performing a range of movements and developing flexibility, strength and balance.
