Designing and Making our own Fruit Salad

First we designed our fruit salad. We chose our favourite fruits, gave the fruit salad a name and thought about what we wanted the packaging to look like.

Next we collected the fruit we needed and carefully chopped it up into bite size pieces and mixed it all up into our containers.

We really enjoyed making our fruit salads and creating the packaging for them to be displayed in. We especially enjoyed eating all of the yummy fruit!

Structures

We are learning about towers in our DT lessons this half term. We looked at some different towers and talked about similarities and differences between them. The we discussed ways which we can make a tower and the children had a try at building their own tower out of marshmallows and cocktail sticks. The towers were not very strong but they looked great and were very tasty afterwards!

Making structures stronger

We experimented with different materials and looked at different ways to manipulate them to make them stronger.

  • twisted newspaper
  • layered straws
  • folded paper
  • stacked cups
  • bended straws
  • used tape to stiffen

We really enjoyed investigating ways to make things stronger.
