History

In our History lessons this half term we are talking about ourselves and how we have changed over time. We looked at photographs of ourselves as babies and talked about how our appearances have changed. We also discussed things that we have learnt since we were babies.

To celebrate Black History month this year, Year 1 have been learning about some key figures in Black history.

Rosa Parks bus role play

Today we listened to Rosa Parks story and learnt about how she wouldn't give up her seat on the bus.

After hearing about what she did we talked about what we thought was fair and equal, and what was not. We also discussed how Rosa Parks must have felt being segregated, using vocabulary like confused, upset, worried, angry

We then did some role play and acted out what happened to Rosa Parks. We really enjoyed showing how brave Rosa Parks was!

Great Fire of London Visitor

We had a special visitor come in to school to teach us all about London in 1666 and the terrifying fire which started on the 2nd September! He showed us clothing and artefacts from the time, talked to us about what happened and why the fire started and discussed how the fire was finally put out. We even had a go at making out own water chain and passed the bucket around! We had such an interesting afternoon!
