Literacy (reading and writing) Year One will be learning to: - Continue to develop phonetic knowledge.
- Apply phonic knowledge for reading
- Read a variety of texts with understanding
- Identify and discuss characters and settings of a variety of texts.
- Write speech for characters
- Talk about characters thoughts and feelings
- Adapt parts of stories to write our own.

Maths Year One will be learning to: - Recognise and create repeating patterns with objects, shapes and numbers
- Identify, name and describe common 2D and 3D shapes.
- Measure capacity in non-standard units
- Find a half and a quarter of shapes and objects
- Represent an amount using coins.
- Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour.

Science Animals- Year One will be learning to: - Identify and name a variety of common animals
- Describe and compare the structure of animals
- Grouping and sorting animals
- Recognising that animals need to be treated with care and sensitivity.
Geography Our School - Year One will be learning to: - Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds
- Identify the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment.
- Use a range of maps and globes (including picture maps) at different scales.
- Recognise simple features on maps e.g. buildings, roads and fields.
- Recognise landmarks and basic human features on aerial photos.
- Use maps and other images to talk about everyday life e.g. where we live, journey to school etc.

Class reminders - We change reading books daily- if you read with your child, please remember to sign their reading diary. Books will not be changed if diaries aren’t signed.
- P.E. is on Monday and Friday- children must come to school wearing their PE kits.
- Homework is given out on Fridays. Children must complete their homework and return it by Thursday the following week.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD'S NAME HAS BEEN WRITTEN IN EACH ITEM OF THEIR SCHOOL UNIFORM AND PE KIT. |
