Transition from EYFS to KS1
Transition from EYFS to KS1 of the National Curriculum
At Ingol Community Primary School we recognise that transitions are milestone events for children and have an impact on their development.
We ensure that every child at school benefits from a smooth transition from Reception to Year 1 by:
- providing ‘move up days’, that enable the children to become familiar with Year 1 staff and the Year 1 classroom.
- ensuring that Reception and Year 1 staff understand what happens in each other’s classrooms.
- ensuring that Reception and Year 1 staff have a transition meeting to discuss the needs of each child.
- extending the EYFS approach into Year 1, by offering opportunities for play-based learning
- ensuring that the children are given opportunities for outdoor play in Year 1.
- providing transition activities for the children to complete at school, in order to give the children opportunities to discuss the transition.
- providing transition activities for parents/carers, to encourage the children to talk about their thoughts and feelings on the transition. Parent/carers are encouraged to give feedback to staff after completing these activities with their children.
